It was a beehive of activities conducted by the Sisters for Peace Initiative (SPI) in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2022. The event took place at St. Paul Primary School in Nsambya, a Kampala suburb and targeted vulnerable girls and teenagers.
Sisters for Peace Initiative in conjunction with like-minded partners engaged vulnerable girls and teenagers on Menstrual Health sessions, and enhanced their awareness on sexual and reproductive health rights under the theme: ‘Women and girls breaking Menstrual Stigma: Emerging barriers and opportunities’. Reusable sanitary pads were also distributed and illustrations made on how to use them.
The team from SPI held honest conversations with girls and teenagers on myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation and the participants opened up about their individual unique experiences of Menstruation and how it affected. This engagement was unique in a manner that the facilitators highlighted the implication of Menstrual related challenges, to the peace and individual well-being and by the time the engagement came to an end, the girls and teenagers were just yearning for more and requested SPI to scale out the program to other vulnerable communities.
